In the early morning hours of April 17, 2016, a grim discovery was made at the intersection of 7th and Dennison Streets in Little Rock, Arkansas. A passerby found the body of 50-year-old Keith Williams, a male resident of the city. It was later determined that he had been shot at a different location, near Park Street, and had managed to walk to where he ultimately collapsed and succumbed to his injuries.
His death marked the city's ninth homicide of the year.
The Little Rock Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting. Their efforts quickly led them to a person of interest, 32-year-old John Johnson, also of Little Rock. In a somewhat unusual turn of events, Johnson was already in custody at the Pulaski County Regional Jail on a first-degree battery charge related to a separate shooting that occurred later on the same night Williams was killed.
Just four days after the discovery of Williams's body, authorities charged John Johnson with first-degree murder in connection with his death. In addition to the murder charge, Johnson was also held on a parole violation. He remained incarcerated pending his trial.
