In the late afternoon of August 14, 2018, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of an apartment complex on Dreher Lane in Little Rock, Arkansas. When the echo of the shots faded, 28-year-old Christopher Nixon lay grievously wounded outside his vehicle in the parking lot, having been struck by multiple bullets. Emergency services were called to the scene, and Nixon was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Homicide detectives began an immediate investigation into the shooting. They learned that two other people had been inside the car with Nixon when the shooting occurred, though neither of them was harmed. These individuals were taken to the Major Crimes Division for questioning and were later released as the investigation continued. In the initial stages of their inquiry, police were searching for three male suspects who were seen fleeing the area in a dark-colored vehicle. For years, the case remained open, with Nixon's killer or killers at large, leaving a void of uncertainty for his family and community.
For more than six years, the investigation into Christopher Nixon's death continued. Then, in a significant breakthrough, investigators identified a suspect in the long-unsolved homicide. In September 2024, 34-year-old Anthony Murry was taken into custody in Missouri. He was subsequently extradited back to Little Rock on September 23, 2024, to face legal proceedings. Murry has since been charged with capital murder in connection with the 2018 shooting death of Christopher Nixon, marking a pivotal development in the quest for answers and justice that had been years in the making.
