In the late summer of 2018, a tragedy unfolded in the small town of Lake Village, Arkansas, culminating in the death of 14-year-old Christopher Nelson. On the evening of Tuesday, August 21, the Chicot County Sheriff's Office received a distressing call from a man who stated he had accidentally shot his son. Deputies and medical personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Christopher Nelson with a gunshot wound to his head.
The young man was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, in a critical effort to save his life. Christopher, born on April 19, 2004, in Indianola, Mississippi, was a resident of Lake Village and was known as a loving son, grandson, and brother who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends.
The individual who made the call was identified as Christopher's father, Ronnie Nelson. He was taken to the Chicot County Sheriff's Office for questioning regarding the circumstances that led to the shooting. While the investigation commenced, Christopher fought for his life at the medical center.
Tragically, in the early hours of Thursday, August 23, 2018, Christopher Nelson succumbed to his injuries. The incident was reported by authorities as an accidental shooting by his father. No further information regarding any arrests or charges has been made publicly available. Funeral services for Christopher were held on August 30, 2018, and he was laid to rest in the Higden McLehaney Cemetery.
