On a Sunday evening in Lake Village, Arkansas, the calm was broken by the sound of gunfire. The incident, which occurred around 6:30 p.m. on December 15, 2024, unfolded at the Country Place Apartments on Mulberry Street. When the shooting stopped, two young men had been struck. One of them was 20-year-old Markell Lamber, a male resident of Lake Village.
Both he and a 17-year-old boy were rushed to Chicot Memorial Medical Center for their injuries.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, Markell Lamber succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. The Chicot County Coroner officially pronounced him deceased at 7:46 p.m. that same evening. The younger victim, however, was treated for his injuries and subsequently released from the hospital. Lamber was remembered by his sister as a cherished son, brother, and father, and his family later set up a GoFundMe campaign to help with funeral costs.
The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. Their work led them to a suspect, 22-year-old Antario Andrews, who also resided in Lake Village. Andrews was arrested in connection with the shooting and has since been charged with capital murder. The investigation into the events of that evening remains ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the circumstances that led to the tragic loss of a young life.
