In the summer of 2021, a violent encounter in the small city of Lake Village, Arkansas, ended the life of 53-year-old James Harden. On the afternoon of Monday, July 5th, Harden was outside a residence at 423 Lee Street when a man, later identified as Derrick Wilson, arrived at the location. According to witnesses, a confrontation ensued, and Harden attempted to flee from Wilson.
The altercation escalated tragically when a firearm was discharged.
Harden sustained a gunshot wound and, despite efforts to save him, succumbed to his injuries while being transported to a local hospital. The incident prompted an immediate investigation by the Lake Village Police Department, who quickly sought the assistance of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division to delve into the circumstances surrounding the homicide.
Following a day-long search, the suspect, 43-year-old Derrick Wilson of Lake Village, surrendered to local law enforcement on July 6th. Special Agents with the state police obtained warrants, and Wilson was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by certain persons. He was taken into custody and held at the Chicot County Detention Center to await his first court appearance as the investigation into the events that led to Harden's death continued.
