In the winter of 2019, a tragic event unfolded in a home on Hearn Street in Blytheville, Arkansas, ending the life of 26-year-old Brittney Nicole Sims. On February 19th, Sims was fatally shot in an upstairs bedroom of the residence she shared with her boyfriend, Eric Bragg. The incident stemmed from Bragg's accusation that Sims was having an affair. The altercation escalated to a fatal conclusion when Bragg shot her.
After she fell, he proceeded to shoot her twice more in the back of the head.
The violent act was further compounded by the fact that two infant children were present in the home at the time of the murder. The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Eric Bragg, who was 39 years old at the time. He was charged with the first-degree murder of his girlfriend, Brittney Sims.
In October 2020, a Mississippi County Circuit Court jury convicted Eric Bragg of first-degree murder for the death of Brittney Sims. The jury took only 20 minutes to reach a guilty verdict. For the crime, Bragg was sentenced to 40 years in prison. In addition to the murder sentence, he received a 15-year enhancement for the use of a weapon and another 10-year enhancement for committing the crime in the presence of the two infants. These additional sentences were ordered to be served consecutively, following the completion of his 40-year prison term for the murder.
