On June 27, 2020, a tragic incident unfolded in Blytheville, Arkansas, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including 54-year-old Joyce Adams. The event occurred during a family gathering at 613 Parkway, where an argument escalated into gunfire. Oscar Lane, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Joyce Adams and Virginia Bailey, 29, were transported to local hospitals, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
The investigation revealed that Marlon Tucker, 36, was responsible for the shootings. Tucker, who was not involved in the initial altercation, became angry during the family gathering and began firing his weapon at the attendees. After the incident, he fled the scene, stealing a vehicle and driving to Missouri. Authorities arrested Tucker near St. Louis, Missouri, on June 28, 2020, and he was held pending extradition to Arkansas.
In March 2022, a Mississippi County jury convicted Tucker on three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and one count of first-degree battery. Circuit Judge Charles Mooney, Jr. sentenced him to three consecutive life terms plus 65 years in prison. Prosecuting Attorney Keith L. Chrestman commended the jury's decision, emphasizing the community's intolerance for violence.
Joyce Adams was remembered as a beloved mother and grandmother. Born on August 1, 1965, in Osceola, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Ruthie Adams and the late Robert Adams. She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents. Joyce is survived by her mother, five children, four siblings, 23 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Her funeral service was held on July 11, 2020, at St. Paul M.B. Church in Blytheville, with burial at Memory Garden Cemetery.
