In the late summer of 2019, a dispute at an entertainment lounge in a small Arkansas community escalated to a fatal conclusion, leaving one man dead and another facing a murder charge. The victim was identified as Tony O. Brown, a 41-year-old male from Pine Bluff. The events leading to his death unfolded in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 1, outside of the J&J Lounge located in the Haynes community of Lee County, an area situated between the cities of Marianna and Forrest City.
According to reports from the Arkansas State Police, an altercation had been brewing throughout the night and eventually spilled outside the establishment. It was there that the disagreement culminated in gunfire. The Lee County Sheriff's Department was called to the scene at approximately 1:37 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered that Brown had been shot. His body was later transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the official cause of death.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led to a suspect. Later that same day, authorities arrested Alfred D. Johnson, a 49-year-old resident of Forrest City. He was taken into custody by the Arkansas State Police and subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Tony Brown. Following his arrest, Johnson was held at the Lee County Jail on a $500,000 bond, awaiting further legal proceedings in the case that brought a violent end to the holiday weekend.
