In the early evening of September 23, 2019, the sound of multiple gunshots shattered the calm at the Eagle Nest Apartments on Falcon Court in Little Rock, Arkansas. Responding to reports, officers from the Little Rock Police Department arrived at approximately 6:17 p.m. to a grim scene. They discovered 21-year-old Kadavieus Sanders, a Black male, lying in the parking lot, having sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Medical personnel were unable to revive him and pronounced him deceased at the location.
Witnesses at the scene provided a crucial lead, describing a possible suspect vehicle, a black SUV, and its direction of travel. Acting swiftly on this information, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the description and detained four individuals for questioning. The SUV was impounded, and a search warrant was obtained to process it for any potential evidence connected to the shooting. However, after thorough interviews and an examination of the initial evidence, the four individuals were released without any charges being filed against them in relation to the homicide.
The investigation into the death of Kadavieus Sanders continued to unfold, and in the days that followed, homicide detectives were able to identify a primary suspect. On October 2, 2019, 22-year-old Alize Exavier Warren surrendered to the police. He was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Sanders. Following his arrest, Warren was transported to the Pulaski County Jail. The death of Kadavieus Sanders marked the 35th homicide in Little Rock for that year.
