In the early evening of December 6, 2019, the city of Marianna, Arkansas, was shattered by an act of violence that claimed the life of 45-year-old Derek Granville, a Black/African American male. Officers from the Marianna Police Department were dispatched to Jordan Street at approximately 6 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Granville with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, face, and stomach.
Despite the immediate medical attention he received at the scene, his injuries proved to be fatal.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to Jeff Tucker, a resident of Lee County, as the primary suspect. The day after Granville's death, law enforcement located Tucker, which then escalated into a tense six-hour standoff. The Arkansas State Police and SWAT team members were involved in the prolonged confrontation, which ultimately concluded with Tucker's apprehension.
Following his arrest, Jeff Tucker was charged with capital murder in connection with the death of Derek Granville. The incident left the community of Marianna in sorrow and highlighted ongoing concerns about gun violence in the Arkansas Delta region. In the wake of the tragedy, local authorities affirmed their dedication to seeking justice for Granville and addressing the broader issues of violence within the community.
