On a late summer evening in Magnolia, Arkansas, the sound of gunfire shattered the peace near the Fox Creek Apartments. It was approximately 10:30 PM on September 11, 2021, when officers from the Magnolia Police Department were dispatched to the scene following reports of shots fired. There, behind one of the apartment buildings, they discovered 27-year-old Jofflin Brown, a Black / African American male, lying on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel
arrived quickly and transported Brown to Magnolia Regional Medical Center. In an effort to save his life, he was subsequently transferred to another local hospital. Despite the medical teams' efforts, Jofflin Brown succumbed to his injuries. The news of his death rippled through the small community, leaving residents shaken and concerned about the rising violence in their town.
The Magnolia Police Department launched a thorough investigation into the homicide. Detectives interviewed witnesses and meticulously collected evidence from the crime scene. Their investigation soon pointed to a suspect: 32-year-old Willis Harris, also of Magnolia. Following the leads and evidence gathered, authorities located and arrested Harris.
Willis Harris was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Jofflin Brown. Further investigation revealed additional alleged offenses, and he also faced charges of possession of a defaced firearm and endangering the welfare of a minor in the first degree. The latter charge indicated that a child was present during the commission of the crime. The arrest of a suspect brought a measure of relief to the community as the legal process began to unfold.
