On November 7, 1919, Sheriff B. E. Greer of Columbia County, Arkansas, was fatally shot while attempting to arrest Jordan Jameson, a man accused of assaulting his wife. Accompanied by a deputized citizen and another deputy, Sheriff Greer approached Jameson's residence, located approximately four miles west of Magnolia.
