On August 24, 2014, a tragic shooting occurred outside a Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) lodge in Magnolia, Arkansas, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The victims were identified as 23-year-old Brandon T. Hobdy, a senior wide receiver for the Southern Arkansas University (SAU) Mulerider football team, and 24-year-old Wayne A. Payton, a former SAU student. Both were attending a back-to-school party when the incident took place.
