In the quiet neighborhood of West Memphis, Arkansas, the life of 55-year-old Donna Christley was tragically cut short on the evening of October 29, 2022. A female resident of the 500 block of Wilson Road, she was a beloved family member, described by those who knew her as the thread that held their family together. Her sudden and violent death left a profound void in the lives of her loved ones.
The events that led to her untimely demise began to unfold when Lorenzo Lamont Allen, a
25-year-old from Memphis, arrived at her home. He was reportedly looking for his ex-girlfriend, Christley's niece, and began banging on the door. Fearing for her niece's safety, as Allen had allegedly threatened her with a gun in the past, Christley stepped outside to intervene. She calmly asked Allen to leave the property. As she turned to go back inside her house, Allen fatally shot her under the carport. The act was committed in the presence of other family members, including children who were inside the home at the time.
West Memphis Police were called to the scene after reports of shots fired. Upon their arrival, they discovered Christley with a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services were dispatched, but her injuries proved to be fatal. Investigators quickly identified Lorenzo Lamont Allen as the primary suspect in the shooting. He was subsequently apprehended on November 21, 2022.
In August 2023, a Crittenden County jury found Lorenzo Lamont Allen guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Donna Christley. He was also convicted on charges of committing a terroristic act and five counts of aggravated assault. For his crimes, Allen was sentenced to 65 years in prison, bringing a measure of judicial closure to the family and community deeply affected by this senseless act of violence.
