On a summer evening in West Memphis, Arkansas, the life of 15-year-old Jordyne Craig was tragically cut short. On June 9, 2018, while walking with her boyfriend on South 15th Street, a car approached and an occupant opened fire on the couple. Jordyne was fatally wounded and died at the scene. Her boyfriend sustained a gunshot wound to the arm but survived the attack.
Jordyne was known as an honor roll student who was looking forward to her upcoming birthday.
Her family described her as the kind of daughter anyone would want. In the wake of the shooting, the Child Advocacy Center of Eastern Arkansas and the West Memphis Police Department flew a flag in her honor to remember the promising young life that had been lost.
The investigation into the senseless violence led to an arrest in the case. West Memphis Police charged Kelton Moore with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Jordyne Craig. The community was left to grapple with the loss of a bright young woman whose future was stolen in a moment of violence.
