On June 27, 2022, at approximately 12:33 a.m., West Memphis police responded to a report of shots fired at 815 Madison Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals deceased from gunshot wounds. The female victim was identified as 38-year-old Nedra Barnes, and the male victim as 41-year-old Curtis Moore. Preliminary evidence suggested a possible murder-suicide, with Moore believed to have fatally shot Barnes before taking his own life.
Family members of both victims expressed disbelief and sought further clarification. Moore's niece reported a conversation with him shortly before his death, during which he mentioned being threatened, implying the presence of a third party. Additionally, Moore's widow, Patricia Malone Moore, contested the murder-suicide theory, describing her late husband as non-aggressive and expressing skepticism about the allegations.
