In the early morning hours of July 2, 1990, a quiet night in Gothenburg, Nebraska, was shattered by a sudden act of violence that claimed the life of a dedicated public servant. Glenn Hobart Haas, a 42-year-old White/Caucasian male, was a respected sergeant with the Gothenburg Police Department. Although he was off duty, Haas was present at the police station at approximately 3:00 AM when a 17-year-old male arrived, stating that he wished to speak with an officer.
