In the summer of 1974, a decorated veteran's life was cut tragically short in the line of duty. James Michael Lewis, a 30-year-old White / Caucasian male, was serving as a Deputy Sheriff with the Mohave County Sheriff's Office. A United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he held a master's degree in police science and had been with the department for 13 months, having previously served a year with the Coconino County Sheriff's Office.
