In the early hours of a Monday in Kingman, Arizona, the life of 30-year-old Christopher Dayton Young came to a violent end. The incident that led to his death on May 4, 2020, began with a complaint about loud music at the home he shared with his roommate, Christopher Robin Kacos.
A woman who lived nearby approached the residence in the 900 block of John Norman Lane to voice her concerns about the noise.
According to her account, she was met at the door by Young, who reacted to her complaint with aggression, striking her in the head. Following this alleged assault, deputies from the Mohave County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the home at approximately 2:41 AM. When they arrived, they spoke with the 33-year-old homeowner, Kacos, who informed them that Young had told him about the altercation before fleeing into the nearby desert area. An initial search for Young by the deputies proved unsuccessful.
Less than two hours later, at roughly 4:47 AM, the quiet of the neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunshots, prompting several calls to dispatch and drawing law enforcement back to the same location. Upon their return, deputies discovered Young's body in the roadway. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his head, face, and back. Kacos was found on the property and was promptly detained by the authorities.
Near Young's body, investigators located a shotgun and three spent shotgun shells. It was later determined that a total of four rounds had been fired from the weapon. During the investigation, Kacos admitted to his role in the shooting. He revealed to detectives that he and Young had been in a domestic relationship and that Young had been residing with him for about a month prior to the fatal incident. Following his confession, Christopher Robin Kacos was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He was subsequently booked into the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility.
