Patrick Eugene Benson, a 31-year-old White male, was tragically killed in Kingman, Arizona. His life was cut short on July 24, 2024, when police responded to a report of a shooting at a residence in the 2200 block of Davis Avenue around 6:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Benson with a single gunshot wound to his head. Despite attempts at life-saving measures, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly identified a suspect, 58-year-old
Melvin Leroy Grayson of Kingman. Authorities learned that Grayson had shot Benson before fleeing the location. This prompted the issuance of an emergency felony warrant for his arrest. The search for Grayson concluded the following day, on July 25th, when he was located and taken into custody in the early morning hours by the Bullhead City Police Department.
Following his arrest, detectives from the Kingman Police Department transported Grayson back to Kingman. He was subsequently booked into the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility. Grayson faces serious felony charges, including First-Degree Murder by Domestic Violence, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon by Domestic Violence, and Misconduct Involving Weapons by a Prohibited Possessor. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Benson's death is ongoing.
