On November 19, 2024, at approximately 7:55 p.m., Dallas police responded to a disturbance call in the 1900 block of Riverway Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered 69-year-old Veronica Lopez deceased at the scene, appearing to have been shot. Dallas Fire-Rescue pronounced her dead upon arrival.
The investigation revealed that Veronica's husband, 77-year-old Francisco Rodriguez Amaya, had been married to her for 47 years.
Amaya reported to police that he suspected his wife of infidelity due to changes in her behavior and messages he found on her cellphone. Despite her denials, he confronted her at their home. During this confrontation, Amaya shot Veronica in the chest. Believing the gunshot did not immediately kill her, he proceeded to strangle her. Afterward, he placed the firearm in a dresser drawer and called 911 to report the incident.
Following his confession, Francisco Rodriguez Amaya was arrested and charged with murder. He was booked into the Dallas County jail, with his bond yet to be set.
