On the evening of June 10, 2023, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Dallas police responded to a shooting incident at the Cherokee Village Apartments, located in the 400 block of North Jim Miller Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered 23-year-old LaTorra Monay Allen lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to her neck. She was promptly transported to a local hospital by Dallas Fire-Rescue, where she was later pronounced dead.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a large gathering was taking place in the apartment complex's courtyard when multiple gunshots were fired, one of which struck Allen. Despite the number of attendees, no other injuries were reported. At the time, there was no available description of the suspect or suspects involved in the shooting.
In the aftermath of the incident, the Dallas Police Department urged anyone with information to come forward, offering a reward of up to $5,000 through Crime Stoppers for tips leading to an arrest and indictment. Detective Frank Serra was designated as the point of contact for the investigation.
