In the middle of a busy afternoon on January 18, 2016, a passerby made a grim discovery near 15th Avenue and Van Buren Street in Phoenix. There, outside a local business, lay the body of 32-year-old Erin Marie Akers, a female whose life had been tragically cut short. Responding Phoenix Police Department officers quickly determined that her death was not from natural causes; she had visible injuries that pointed to foul play, and her death was classified as a homicide.
