On December 3, 2024, at approximately 3 p.m., Durham police responded to reports of a shooting in the 2900 block of Bertland Avenue, near Leyburn Place. Upon arrival, officers discovered 52-year-old Gary Dywane Singletary suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Services pronounced him dead at the scene.
