Marcus Bradley Ortega-Burch, a 20-year-old male from Durham, North Carolina, was fatally shot on the night of September 8, 2022. The incident occurred around 11:55 p.m. in a residential area within the 200 block of Kent Lake Drive. Authorities responded to reports of a disturbance involving a weapon, and upon arrival, they discovered Ortega-Burch had sustained gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Durham Police Department has indicated that the shooting does not appear to have been random. However, as of the latest available information, no suspects have been identified or arrested in connection with Ortega-Burch’s death. The investigation remains ongoing, and law enforcement officials have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
Earlier that same day, another fatal shooting occurred in Durham, claiming the life of 18-year-old Wahid Downey. Downey was shot in the 1400 block of Wabash Street, across from McDougald Terrace, and later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. While both incidents took place within hours of each other and in relatively close proximity, authorities have not confirmed whether they are related.
