On the night of April 15, 2023, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Durham Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 300 block of East Cornwallis Road in Durham, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 25-year-old Christopher Jahquel Greene suffering from gunshot wounds. Greene was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Greene's death revealed that he was shot during an aggravated assault.
Despite efforts by law enforcement to identify and apprehend the individual(s) responsible, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the case. Authorities have stated that the shooting does not appear to be random, suggesting that Greene may have known his assailant(s).
Born on September 27, 1997, in Washington, North Carolina, Christopher Greene was a resident of Aurora who had relocated to Durham. He received his education in the Durham Public School System. In his leisure time, Greene enjoyed rapping, playing sports, and, most importantly, spending time with his children. He is survived by his parents, Bryan Upchurch and Sophia Harper; his children, Taylor Marie Greene, Bella Monae Greene, and Khloe Hedgepeth; and other family members.
Funeral services for Greene were held on April 29, 2023, at New Growth Unlimited Ministries in Aurora, North Carolina, providing an opportunity for family and friends to honor his memory and mourn his untimely passing.
