Brendan's family was deeply affected by his untimely death. His uncle, Shelton Golson, expressed the family's shock and grief, noting that Brendan was merely stepping out of his apartment when the tragedy occurred.
Golson emphasized the unexpected nature of losing someone so young, stating, "Nobody would expect anybody to pass at a young age of 23."
In the days following the incident, Durham police released images of a vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting. The suspect's car was described as a black 2011-2012 Honda Accord with a sunroof and a distinctive decal above the Accord emblem on the rear bumper.
