On December 17, 2024, at approximately 11:28 a.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to a call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon in the 3000 block of Perennial Terrace, near North Tryon Street in Charlotte, North Carolina. Upon arrival, officers discovered 28-year-old Raymone Devine Flakes suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel transported Flakes to Novant Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
Following an investigation, CMPD detectives identified a 17-year-old male suspect in connection with the homicide. On December 19, 2024, the department's Violent Crime Apprehension Team (VCAT) and Crime Gun Suppression Team (CGST) apprehended the juvenile suspect. After being interviewed by homicide detectives, the suspect was transferred to the custody of the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice. The juvenile has been charged with murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Flakes' death remains active and ongoing. CMPD has notified Flakes' next of kin about his passing and the subsequent arrest.
