On December 20, 2024, at approximately 3:45 p.m., 42-year-old Brandy Nicole Olson was fatally shot while waiting in line at the Woodforest National Bank inside the Walmart Supercenter on Fayetteville Road in Lumberton, North Carolina. Upon arrival, officers found Olson suffering from gunshot wounds; bystanders were attempting life-saving measures before she was transported to UNC Health Southeastern, where she was pronounced dead.

The investigation revealed that the shooting was an isolated incident in which the perpetrators targeted two individuals they knew, who were standing at the bank inside the Walmart. Unfortunately, Olson, an innocent bystander, was struck by the gunfire. The suspects fled the scene immediately after the incident.

Authorities identified two teenage suspects in connection with the shooting. Seventeen-year-old Ezekiel Burden of Lumberton is charged with first-degree murder, discharging a firearm within an enclosure to incite fear, and going armed to the terror of the people. Eighteen-year-old Brian Campbell, also of Lumberton, is charged with accessory after the fact.

On December 23, 2024, Campbell turned himself in to the Lumberton Police Department and was detained under a $1,000,000 bond. As of December 24, Burden remains at large, and authorities are actively seeking information regarding his whereabouts.

The Lumberton Police Department is collaborating with the Robeson County Sheriff's Office, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to investigate the case. They urge anyone with information about Burden's location to contact them at 910-671-3845.
