She was immediately rushed to Southeastern Regional Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.

around 3:30 a.m. Despite the efforts of law enforcement, the case remains unsolved. The authorities have not identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with her murder. The lack of leads has left the community and her family seeking justice for her untimely death.
Almost a year after Mary Ann Thompson's murder, her 25-year-old grandson, Marquese Antonio Nicholson, was also tragically killed. On January 18, 2016, Marquese was shot multiple times while sitting in his vehicle on Gavintown Road in Lumberton. His murder, like his grandmother's, remains unsolved, adding to the grief and frustration experienced by their family.
The Lumberton Police Department, along with the Robeson County District Attorney’s Office and the State Bureau of Investigation, continue to seek information that could lead to the resolution of these cases.
