On April 24, 2023, in Lumberton, North Carolina, 3-year-old Legacy Alford tragically lost her life due to a gunshot wound. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. in the vicinity of Singletary Church Road and Highway 211 East. Before law enforcement arrived, a private citizen attempted to transport Legacy to UNC Health Southeastern Medical Center. En route, they were met by Robeson County EMS, who took over and transported her to the hospital.
Despite their efforts, Legacy succumbed to her injuries.
The Robeson County Sheriff's Office immediately launched an investigation, with both the Homicide and Juvenile Divisions involved. Legacy's body was sent to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities have stated that, upon concluding the investigation, all evidence will be presented to the Robeson County District Attorney’s Office for further action.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with Legacy's death. The Sheriff's Office has urged anyone with information regarding the case to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
