In the early morning hours of November 26, 2024, a dispute in Oxon Hill, Maryland, turned fatal, claiming the life of 26-year-old Tamara Jones of Washington, D.C. The female victim was discovered inside a vehicle in the 6200 block of Oxon Hill Road at approximately 2:45 a.m., suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition and fought for her life for three days before succumbing to her injuries on November 29, 2024.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led Prince George's County Police to two individuals known to Jones: 37-year-old Carlas William Carter and 26-year-old Mary Ashby, both residents of Alexandria, Virginia. Detectives determined that an altercation between Jones and the pair escalated, resulting in the fatal shooting. With the cooperation of the Fairfax County Police Department and the Alexandria City Police Department, Carter and Ashby were apprehended in Virginia.
Following their arrest, Carter, who was employed as a school bus driver for Alexandria City Public Schools, was placed on immediate leave. Both Carter and Ashby were taken into custody and awaited extradition to Prince George's County, Maryland, to face charges related to Jones's death. The suspects have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have encouraged anyone with additional information to come forward.
