In the evening hours of December 14, 2024, the sound of gunfire pierced the air in a Southwest Baltimore neighborhood. At approximately 8:11 p.m., a ShotSpotter alert drew officers to the 200 block of North Payson Street. There, they discovered 29-year-old Travon Q. Benson, a Black male, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response and medical attention at the scene, Benson's injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
