At approximately 8:11 p.m., a ShotSpotter alert drew officers to the 200 block of North Payson Street. There, they discovered 29-year-old Travon Q. Benson, a Black male, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response and medical attention at the scene, Benson's injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead.

A significant development in the case came on December 30, 2024, when Baltimore Police announced the arrest of 42-year-old Tracy Jeter. Jeter was officially charged with first-degree murder in connection with Travon Benson's death. He was taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility and is being held without bail. According to charging documents, investigators believe Jeter shot and killed Benson. Further details from the investigation revealed that GPS data from a carjacked vehicle allegedly driven by Jeter placed it at the scene at the time of the shooting. Seven spent. 38-caliber cartridge casings were also recovered by police from the area. Jeter is scheduled to face trial for the murder of Travon Benson.
