The incident occurred in the late afternoon, with Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers dispatched to the 800 block of Treyburn Green Drive, near the intersection of South Mitthoeffer Road and East Prospect Street, shortly after 5:00 p.m.
Responding to a report of a person shot, officers arrived at a residence to find the teenager suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Despite the immediate response of emergency medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Marion County Coroner’s Office subsequently ruled his death a homicide.
Born on May 12, 2008, in Kankakee, Illinois, Kentrell was a student at Warren Central High School who was known for his dedication to athletics and his work ethic. He excelled in football, basketball, and track, while also balancing employment at a local Jersey Mike’s. His obituary highlighted his role as a protective brother to his siblings and a mentor to his cousins, describing him as a young man with significant aspirations who was deeply loved by his family. In the days following the shooting, community members and loved ones gathered to mourn his loss, holding a visitation and funeral service in late December to celebrate his life.
