Johntae Antonio Brown was a 24-year-old Black man from the Garfield Park neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois. He was known to some by the nickname "JDMunna."
On the afternoon of Friday, December 13, 2024, Johntae was in the city’s Grand Boulevard community on the South Side. Just before 3 p.m., he was standing on a sidewalk in the 200 block of East 43rd Street when a white sedan approached.
According to Chicago police, someone inside the vehicle fired multiple shots in a drive-by attack before the car sped away from the scene.
Johntae was struck by gunfire 12 times. Emergency services rushed him to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. A short time later, at 3:21 p.m., he was pronounced dead.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office officially confirmed his death. Chicago police began an investigation into the shooting, but no arrests were reported in the immediate aftermath. As of December 2024, the homicide remains unsolved.
