In the early morning hours of Wednesday, November 27, 2024, a shooting in a north Columbus neighborhood resulted in the death of 18-year-old J'Mauri Taylor. The incident occurred at approximately 12:35 a.m. in the 8300 block of Canaan Drive. When Columbus Police Officers arrived at the scene, they discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services determined that J'Mauri Taylor was deceased at the scene, and he was officially pronounced dead at 1:38 a.m.
A second victim, later identified as 18-year-old Dai'John Ross, was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional hospital in critical condition. Tragically, Ross succumbed to his injuries and passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024.
The Columbus Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit is actively investigating the double homicide. As of current reports, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the shooting. Authorities have not released information regarding a possible motive for the incident.
