In the early morning hours of December 5, 2024, a domestic dispute in Columbus, Georgia, ended in the tragic death of 42-year-old Sonny Chambers. Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 7300 block of Sorrel Court around 1:18 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Mr. Chambers, a Black male, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services were unable to resuscitate him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:55 a.m.
by the Muscogee County Coroner's office. The Violent Crimes Unit of the Columbus Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the shooting, which was determined to be domestic in nature.
The investigation quickly led to the identification of a suspect, 22-year-old Quentez Thrasher, who is the stepson of the victim. The Columbus Police Department has since secured arrest warrants for Thrasher on charges of Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime. Authorities are currently searching for Thrasher and have asked for the public's assistance in locating him.
