On December 17, 2024, Milpitas police conducted a welfare check at the Turing Apartments on McCandless Drive after family members reported not hearing from their loved ones for several days. Upon entry, officers discovered the bodies of 36-year-old Vinh Nguyen, 36-year-old Betty Pham, their 9-year-old son Henry Nguyen, and their 4-year-old daughter, all deceased from single gunshot wounds.
Investigators identified Vinh Nguyen as the perpetrator, concluding that he fatally shot his wife and two children before taking his own life. A handgun legally registered to him was recovered at the scene. The tragic incident is believed to have occurred on December 14, 2024.
Both Vinh Nguyen and Betty Pham were employees of the Valley Transportation Authority. Reports indicate the couple was undergoing a divorce at the time of the incident. There were no prior records of domestic violence involving the family in Milpitas.
