Krystofer Encabo, a 35-year-old man, was fatally shot in Anchorage, Alaska, on November 23, 2024. According to police reports, at about 1:41 p.m., Anchorage Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 4300 block of San Ernesto Avenue. When they arrived, they found Encabo suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was transported to a hospital, but succumbed to his injuries soon afterward.
Investigators believe the shooting was not random but an isolated incident. Officers completed next-of-kin notifications following Encabo's death. The crime scene team processed the location, and the case was assigned numbers 24-36496 and 24-36499.
An 18-year-old suspect, Santino Arce Figueroa, was identified and arrested in connection with the shooting. He has been charged with second-degree murder and remanded to the Anchorage Correctional Complex. On December 6, 2024, a grand jury indicted Figueroa on additional charges: first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, and one count of tampering with physical evidence. If convicted, he faces up to 99 years in prison on each murder charge and up to 5 years for tampering.
Prior to the shooting, Figueroa alleged that someone in Encabo's apartment had stolen money from his girlfriend. He told investigators he obtained a gun with the intent to “light the place up.” Later he claimed he fired in self-defense. The case is ongoing, and court appearances were scheduled following the indictments.
