On January 6, 2023, at approximately 9:30 p.m., 34-year-old Xavier Alvarez and 38-year-old Janell Lopez were fatally shot in the 7000 block of Calle Fincias in San Antonio, Texas. Deputies from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and discovered Alvarez lying near a Chrysler Pacifica with multiple gunshot wounds, while Lopez was found inside the vehicle, also suffering from multiple gunshot injuries.

The investigation revealed several dozen shell casings from at least two different firearms scattered on the street and in the front yard of a nearby residence, indicating multiple firing positions. A witness reported being in the backyard of the home when gunfire erupted. Upon reaching the front, the witness observed 49-year-old Nickolas "Blue" Lopez firing both a rifle and a handgun at the Pacifica, while another individual, later identified as 54-year-old Alfred "Krueger" Lopez, was seen discharging two handguns into the back of the vehicle.

Following a thorough investigation, authorities arrested Nickolas Lopez on March 3, 2023, charging him with capital murder. His bond was set at $1 million. Subsequently, on March 6, 2023, Alfred Lopez was apprehended at a Walmart in Corpus Christi, Texas, and similarly charged with capital murder. Both suspects are believed to be brothers and are currently held in the Bexar County Jail.

The motive behind the shootings has not been explicitly detailed by authorities. However, Sheriff Javier Salazar mentioned the possibility of a romantic dispute leading to the incident. The investigation involved collaboration among multiple law enforcement agencies, including local, state, and federal partners, to apprehend the suspects.

As of now, both Nickolas and Alfred Lopez face capital murder charges and await further legal proceedings. The case underscores the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation in resolving violent crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice.
