On January 19, 2023, at approximately 1:30 a.m., deputies from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of loud arguing followed by gunshots outside the Villages of Briggs Ranch apartment complex, located in the 5500 block of Mansions Bluff in far West Bexar County. Upon arrival, they discovered two male victims with multiple gunshot wounds: 52-year-old Michael Bernard Moore and 48-year-old Nicholas Sharkey Phillips.
Moore was found lying near a parked car, while Phillips was located on a nearby walkway. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, and their deaths were ruled homicides by the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office.
Investigators believe that an argument over car keys led to the fatal shooting and that the victims and suspects were acquainted. Later that day, authorities arrested 42-year-old Sheryce Wiley-Taylor, a resident of the apartment complex, on a capital murder charge. Initially, Wiley-Taylor claimed to be a witness; however, after further questioning, she was identified as a suspect and taken into custody. Additionally, the Sheriff's Office named Wiley-Taylor's 25-year-old son, Deleon Malik Taylor-Griffin, as a person of interest in the case and continued efforts to locate him.
The investigation into the deaths of Moore and Phillips highlighted the complexities of relationships and disputes that can escalate into violence. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office emphasized that the incident did not appear to be random, reinforcing the notion that the individuals involved were familiar with one another. As the case proceeded, authorities continued to gather evidence and testimonies to piece together the events leading up to the tragic outcome.
