On January 7, 2023, Wendy Duan, a 28-year-old third-grade reading and language arts teacher at Boone Elementary School in Houston, Texas, was found dead in the backyard of her Sugar Land home. She had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Duan, recognized as the school's 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year, was known for her dedication to her students and her vibrant spirit.
