On January 20, 2023, Galveston police responded to reports of gunfire in the 900 block of 39th Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 25-year-old Malik Dunn suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the 3900 block of Sealy. Despite officers' attempts at life-saving measures, Dunn was pronounced dead at The University of Texas Medical Branch.

In the ensuing investigation, authorities identified 17-year-old Galveston resident Cameron Vargas as a suspect in Dunn's death. Vargas was arreste ...
