On February 8, 2023, 23-year-old Carlos Dariel Calleja was fatally shot in Austin, Texas. The Austin Police Department responded to the incident and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of 19-year-old Abraham Kulor, who was charged with the murders of both Calleja and another individual, 27-year-old Anthony Christopher Brown, who was killed on February 19, 2023. Kulor pleaded guilty to both murders.
In August 2023, a Travis County judge sentenced him to 90 years in prison, with 50 years for one murder and 40 years for the other, to be served concurrently.
Prior to these offenses, Kulor had been released on deferred adjudication in multiple aggravated robbery cases in July 2022. His release was to a "juvenile detainer" from the Travis County Jail, indicating he was placed in the custody of another agency at that time.
Calleja's passing was deeply mourned by his family and the community. A graveside service was held on February 15, 2023, at Manor Cemetery in Manor, Texas, to honor his memory.
