Francisco Chavez, a 41-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity, tragically lost his life on November 28, 2021, in Austin, Texas. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning following a family gathering in Southeast Austin. According to the Austin Police Department, officers responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting shots fired in the 4700 block of Cypress Bend. Upon arrival, they found Chavez lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Despite efforts to save his life, Chavez succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
An autopsy conducted by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Chavez died from a gunshot wound, and the manner of death was ruled as homicide. Investigators determined that a disturbance had occurred after the family gathering, which led to the fatal shooting. The case was treated as a homicide investigation, and detectives began interviewing witnesses and processing the crime scene.

The investigation continued, and the police urged anyone with information or video footage of the incident to come forward. They also offered a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
On December 8, 2023, a Travis County grand jury indicted William Morin on multiple charges, including murder, in connection with the shooting. Morin allegedly shot at Chavez and others during the disturbance that followed the family gathering. He had prior convictions for attempted murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as well as assault family violence.
The case remains under investigation, and the Austin Police Department continues to seek information from the public to bring justice for Francisco Chavez.
