Michael Seibert, a 41-year-old man from Austin, Texas, was tragically shot and killed on December 6, 2022. The incident occurred in the 700 block of Mankato Drive, near Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park. At approximately 4:52 p.m., a 911 call reported a shooting in the area. When officers arrived, they found Seibert with "obvious signs of trauma" and began life-saving efforts until Austin-Travis County EMS arrived. Unfortunately, Seibert was pronounced dead at 5:11 p.m. on the scene.
The initial report indicated that Seibert was shot by someone he knew, and the investigation is ongoing.
Seibert's death was a shock to the community, especially to his neighbor Belle Buchanan, who described him as respectful and kind. Buchanan mentioned that Seibert's daughters meant the world to him, and the incident left her terrified. No one else was injured, and the police believe this was an isolated incident with no threat to the public.
On December 14, 2022, 39-year-old Peter Lucio was arrested and charged with the murder of Michael Seibert. The arrest was made by APD officers and members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force. Lucio's arrest came after detectives determined that Seibert was shot by someone he knew. The investigation revealed that Seibert's death was initially reported as a suspicious death, but it was later classified as a homicide. The case is being investigated as the 66th homicide of the year in Austin.

Michael is survived by his daughters, Emily and Alexis Seibert, his parents, Kenneth and Donna Seibert, his sister, Nichole, and his nephew, Gavin. He enjoyed caring for his daughters, hunting and fishing, working on cars, and spending time with his four-legged children.
