On February 9, 2023, in Alice, Texas, 44-year-old Rebecca Anna Letson was tragically shot and killed in her home. The incident came to light when her 10-year-old daughter called authorities at approximately 1:43 a.m., reporting that her mother had been shot. Upon arrival at the residence on Farm-to-Market Road 1554, deputies from the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Office discovered Rebecca deceased from a gunshot wound.
The primary suspect in this case was identified as Rebecca's estranged husband, 42-year-old Paul Anthony Vasquez. Shortly after the shooting, Vasquez was observed driving recklessly and was subsequently stopped by law enforcement. During the traffic stop, he was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Further investigation led to him being charged with Rebecca's murder. Authorities believe that Vasquez acted alone in this crime, though the motive remains unclear.
Rebecca's untimely death has had a profound impact on her family and the local community. She is survived by her parents, Maximo I. and Maria I. Perez, her children, and grandchildren. A Holy Rosary was held in her honor, followed by burial at The Perez Family Cemetery in Ramirez, Texas.
