On February 16, 2023, 16-year-old Jasmine Estrella Adame was found fatally shot in an alley near Coyote Trail and Apache Point, close to Pebble Hills Boulevard in far east El Paso, Texas. Her family reported that the location was approximately five minutes from their home. Jasmine had informed her family that she would return home by 9:30 p.m.; however, she neither arrived nor responded to further messages. The tragic discovery of her body, with a gunshot wound to the back of her head, was made later that evening.
In the course of the investigation, it was revealed that Jasmine had arranged to purchase marijuana through an intermediary on Instagram known as "Middleman." According to court documents, Jasmine intended to steal the marijuana during the transaction. She and her friends met with 23-year-old Cesar Alejandro Roa for the drug deal. During the encounter, Roa allegedly shot Jasmine in the back of the head. Investigators corroborated these events through witness statements and social media communications.
On March 3, 2023, Roa was arrested and charged with Jasmine's murder, along with multiple drug-related offenses, including manufacturing or delivering a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. At the time of his arrest, Roa was out on bond for a prior felony drug charge from November 2022. He is currently held at the El Paso County Detention Facility with bonds totaling over $1 million. The arrest brought some relief to Jasmine's grieving family, who had been pleading for answers and urging anyone with information to come forward.
Jasmine was remembered by her family as a fun-loving, free-spirited individual who brought joy to those around her. She was a caring big sister and cherished friend, known for her jokes, singing, and dancing. Her untimely death has left a profound void in the lives of her loved ones and the El Paso community. Funeral services were held in her honor, with local organizations assisting the family with expenses.
