On February 21, 2023, 17-year-old Jay Gutierrez was fatally shot in Dallas, Texas. The incident occurred shortly before midnight in the 700 block of West Clarendon Drive. Upon arrival, Dallas police officers observed a black SUV leaving the scene. Gutierrez was found with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the location.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage that captured a white Jeep arriving near the crime scene.
The video showed Gutierrez approaching the vehicle before collapsing to the ground, after which the Jeep sped away southbound on Cockrell Hill Road. A witness provided detectives with a cellphone used by Gutierrez, which contained Instagram messages indicating he was arranging to purchase drugs from someone who provided the address and mentioned they would be in a white Jeep.
Through analysis of Instagram records, detectives identified 18-year-old Abel Kane Filemon as a suspect. Further investigation revealed that a relative of Filemon owned a white Jeep matching the vehicle seen in the surveillance footage. Additionally, a search warrant for Filemon's cellphone records indicated that his device was located southeast of the crime scene shortly after the shooting, consistent with the vehicle's movements captured on video.
Based on this evidence, authorities arrested Abel Kane Filemon, who was subsequently booked into the Dallas County jail on a murder charge in connection with Jay Gutierrez's death. The arrest affidavit suggests that the fatal encounter occurred during an apparent drug deal. As of the latest available information, Filemon remains in custody awaiting trial.
