On December 27, 2023, at approximately 9:15 a.m., 22-year-old Jamarcus Irving was fatally shot in the 9500 block of Scyene Road in Dallas, Texas. The incident occurred in a strip shopping center in the Pleasant Grove area. Irving was conversing with 51-year-old Morland Smith near a beauty supply store when a red Nissan Sentra approached. Four armed suspects exited the vehicle and opened fire, targeting Irving.
Smith, an innocent bystander who had stopped to buy breakfast, was also struck by the gunfire. Irving was pronounced dead at the scene, while Smith was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Dallas Police Department launched a capital murder investigation into the double homicide. Surveillance footage released by the police shows the red Nissan Sentra arriving at the scene, with four suspects, appearing to be in their late teens or early twenties, exiting the vehicle. Three suspects were dressed in dark clothing, with one wearing a distinctive black and white hoodie featuring stars on the shoulders and lettering on the front. The fourth suspect was clad in all gray. One of the assailants was armed with a Draco-style AK-47 semi-automatic rifle. After the shooting, the suspects fled the scene in the same vehicle.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the suspects remain unidentified. The Dallas Police Department has appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the perpetrators. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of those responsible.
